Easter Egg Hunt

As spring starts to peak through the patches of snow around us, we’re all happily anticipating longer days, warm sunshine, and green shoots sprouting from our flower beds.  With Easter, kids get excited to lift things up and see where they can find candy.  But as adults, we often don’t have that same excitement around discovery of new business opportunities. 

I like to think of business development as an Easter egg hunt; once you start turning things over you can discover all sorts of treasures.  The way we “turn things over” is to pick up the phone and/ or meet with people. Most of the problem surrounding these two activities is people are unsure of what they should say. When you do know what to say, it’s amazing how quickly you can fill up your opportunity basket.

Here are the three questions every business professional needs to be able to answer for their business:

What do we do?

Why does it matter?

Who cares?

When you do this effectively, you begin to stand out from your competition.  When you don’t, you get lost in the noise of the market and will find yourself competing only on price. Spending time to get clear on your messaging in conjunction with consistently reaching out to your markets will ensure you have a profitable and sustainable business.
